MyLiferaft - Caring Support Tool - Back To School

In last month’s newsletter, we talked about the build up to September, when families across the country are preparing for school, college or university.  From children transitioning from primary school to secondary, to having a hard time settling in to their new class, it can be a worrying time for parents.  And if a child under your care has Special Educational Needs (SEN) or a long-term condition, these worries can be intensified.

Understanding the support your child will be receiving at school is key, so make sure you can speak to their teacher or SENCO. Your child may also have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) to support their education, which will be reviewed regularly; it’s crucial that you are involved in this process too.

How can Liferaft help you and your child?

Liferaft is here to further support your and your loved one’s needs. Here’s how our application can help make the school routine a little easier:

  • Use the Liferaft Trackers to keep a record of food likes & dislikes so if you are not around, you can easily pass the information on if someone else is making up a packed lunch or inviting them to tea
  • Record and share any useful information you think will be helpful to your child’s teacher to facilitate with settling in during the 1st few weeks
  • Keep a track of your child’s mood over the initial weeks to monitor how they are settling in
  • Track their sleep patterns and adjust bed times if needed
  • Set up a reminder to select clothes and pack school bags for the following day
  • Use the goals section to help your child work towards greater independence

MyLiferaft - Caring Support Tool - Stop Bullying

Although a recent survey of over 2,500 people reveals that 47% of adults have experienced bullying at some point in their lives, it’s still considered an uncomfortable subject to talk about, especially with children.

The start of the new academic year is the ideal time to explore how you can help if a child under your care is a victim of bullying. Read our latest blog post for help and support to help you say no to bullying.

How Liferaft helps parents

Debs Apsland is a Life Coach, SEN Advocate and Blogger who uses Liferaft to manage information and monitor the health of her three children. Here’s how Liferaft has helped her:

“The time it will free up for you and the stress it will remove from having to find that piece of paper or appointment letter is really helpful and, as a parent, it will give you some me time! And who doesn’t want some more time – even if it’s not for you (although it should be).  Having more time available is something we can all make use of.”
