Read All About It!
Welcome to the Summer edition of our Newsletter and after a slightly wet start to the season back in June, it looks like we are full steam ahead!
It’s been a great few months for the team as we have been ‘out & about’ meeting people around the country. We even left these shores and got a very warm welcome from the Isle of Wight Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus who were celebrating their 50th year! This charity is of special interest to Nicola as her daughter Faith had these conditions, and it was really encouraging to see local professionals coming together to learn more about them. If you would like a visit from a member of the MyLiferaft team to explain how MyLiferaft could help support your community or organisation, then please get in contact with us.
Disabled Children’s Partnership (DCP)
Families with disabled children are struggling because of a lack of Government funding. The DCP and The Sun Newspaper have set up a campaign demanding that the Government ‘give back’ a £434 million cut in funding. This equates to a daily shortfall of £1.2 million to support disabled children and their families living their best lives. In turn, families are incurring ever greater costs for health and social care for their children, and disabled children are missing out on the funding they need.
We have signed up to support the Give It Back campaign, and it would be great if you could as well. To find out more, click here. Thank you.
Real Life Stories
Some of you may already be aware that the founder of MyLiferaft was herself a parent-carer. Based on her experiences supporting her daughter Faith, who had multiple and complex care needs, Nicola knew there was an easier way to manage and share the information that comes with caring for someone with additional needs. You can read about their story here .
We have also teamed up with Christina Colmer-McHugh, the co-founder of Moodbeam, who was inspired by her 7-year old daughter struggling to deal with a tough situation at school. Christina was left wondering what it would be like to know how her daughter was feeling when she wasn’t with her. She knew that this was a situation not unique to her, but shared by thousands of other parents. Read more about Christina’s story here
